S4 E3: Is Consciousness All That Is?

Dr. Eben Alexander spent over 25 years as an academic neurosurgeon, with many achievements and accolades in this scientific field. In November 2008, he suddenly fell ill with a rare bacterial meningo-encephalitis (brain infection) of unknown cause, putting him into a seven-day coma. He was not expected to survive.

When he woke up, he had no memories of his life, yet he did have vivid memories of a fantastic odyssey deep into another realm of existence he experienced while in the coma. After a long and complete recovery with no precedent in medical history, he began to share with the world his amazing experience and spiritual insights through presentations, workshops and books.

Dr. Alexander’s story - known as a Near Death Experience (NDE) - offers a crucial key to the understanding of reality and human consciousness. His teachings, based on his newly acquired empirical knowledge, include inter alia the following concepts:

- we are spiritual beings (souls) having a physical (human) experience
- consciousness is non-local and not created by the brain
- reincarnation and the after-life are the facts of our existence
- the nature of the Universe can be understood only through the prism of quantum physics and spirituality

He is the author of two books:
